Minter to Run ASCSoT Events at Edwards’ Tracks
MESQUITE, TX (July 18) – Kathryne Minter has never been shy when discussing her favorite racetrack, Devil’
s Bowl Speedway. She will race in Thursday’s American Sprint Car Series on Tour event at the legendary half-
mile oval, then at two more facilities promoted by Lanny Edwards and his family – State Fair Speedway in
Oklahoma City and Lawton Speedway – Friday and Saturday.
“I’m excited and ready to go,” Kathryne said Wednesday. “Hopefully, when we go to the Devil’s Bowl, we’ll
run well. We’ve been really fast the last few weekends. I’m really looking forward to racing at the Devil’s Bowl
again. I don’t know how many cars will be there since it’s a Thursday race, but I’m sure there will be plenty of
competition.
“I’ve never raced at State Fair. We were rained out there the last time we went (in mid-June), but I’ve heard
it’s really nice. I’ve never raced at Lawton, either. It’s a high-banked, quarter-mile track, so I figure it’s a lot
like Cowtown (Speedway).
Minter, who ranks 24th in the ASCSoT standings, expects to climb higher in the points race this weekend.
“You get 75 points just for showing up,” Kathryne said. “Depending on how many drivers who are in front of
me race, I could move up a few spots. I can really gain a lot of national points running these three races but,
mainly, I just want to run well.”
Minter has been resting after crashing in a July 7th ASCS Sooner Division race at Cowtown Speedway.
“I’m still a little sore, but that’s probably because I’ve been working harder this week,” Kathryne said. “I
didn’t do much last week, but I’ll be ready to race this weekend.”
Sean McClelland, the team’s crew chief and the 2005 ASCS Sooner Division champion, should be back with
the team after attending his wife’s grandmother’s funeral earlier this month.
“I think Sean will be back for the Oklahoma races,” Kathryne said. “He and I were working really well
together before he left to take care of family matters.”

Minter Flips in ASCS Sooner Race at Cowtown
KENNEDALE, TX (July 7) – The day everybody expected to be lucky – 7-7-7 – proved to be very unfortunate
for Kathyrne Minter. Her flip after a collision with the turn-four retaining wall late in the fourth lap of the
Saturday’s American Sprint Car Series Sooner Region “A” Feature at Cowtown Speedway sent her to a nearby
hospital.
“I’m still pretty sore, but I’m going to be OK,” Kathryne said. ”I’m just glad I tightened my belts before I went
out, and my ButlerBuilt seat held together. My belts were really tight and, when I loosened them after the
crash, it released all that pressure which really hurt. I was really glad to get off that board; it put so much
pressure on my back. I just wanted to stand up. I’ve only flipped once before, and that was a Cowtown, too.
Once again, the HANS (device) did its job. The bottom of my neck is sore, but the rest of my neck is perfectly
fine. My shoulders are a little sore and my elbow still hurts, but my neck – that’s what everybody was
concerned about – doesn’t hurt. It’s fine.
“I just hit that lovely rut coming out of four and hit the wall pretty hard. I thought I would hit the wall and
bounce off it like I’ve done before, but not this time. I thought my car hit the wall and spun around; I didn’t
even know I flipped. It all happens so fast, you don’t know what’s going on. I thought I just got up in the air,
spun around and landed really hard. I was really trying to avoid those ruts in turn four and turn two, and I was
trying to keep from wrecking with the guys I was racing with. I knew I could get around them when I got the
chance. There were ruts all over the track, but that one in four was the worst. When I hit it, I just thought I
would bounce off the wall and keep going.”
Kathryne’s father and car owner, Mike Minter, was relieved that his daughter was uninjured and proud that
she is intent on racing again soon.
“She’ll be alright,” Minter said. “She doesn’t have any broken bones; she’s just sore. When I saw her at the
hospital, I asked her how she was doing and she said she was OK. Then she asked, ‘How is the car?’ I said, ‘It’
s pretty torn up, but I’m more concerned about you. I can always put a new car together.’ Then she asked,
‘Can you have one ready by Friday?’ She said she will be ready to race by Friday. She might not be able to
race tomorrow, but I think she’ll be ready by the end of the week.”
Kathryne intends to race in this weekend’s ASCS Gulf South events at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, TX
(Friday) and at the Gator Motorplex in Willis, TX (Saturday).
“I really want to get better by this weekend,” Kathryne said. “These are really important races because I want
to keep the lead in the Gulf South Rookie of the Year standings. That’s really important to me, and these
races can make me or break me. I’m really hoping the doctor is a smart man and knows what he’s talking
about. He has me on some medication, but Friday is only a few days away.”
Minter was running third with two laps remaining in the First Heat Race when she spun in turn two while
passing Skip Wilson. She finished third in the First “B” Feature.
While Kathryne’s new crew chief, 2006 Sooner Region champion Sean McClelland, was away attending his
grandmother’s funeral, his brother, Brian, won Saturday’s race.

Minter Gets Bullring Lesson at Double X
CALIFORNIA, MO (July 4) Richard Day – Kathryne Minter learned some valuable lessons about racing on
bullring racetracks in Wednesday’s American Sprint Car Series on Tour Inaugural Daniel McMillin Memorial
before a standing-room-only, Independence-Day crowd at Double X Speedway.
Minter, who ranks 22nd in the ASCoT point standings, finished seventh in the Fifth Heat Race and seventh in
the Second “B” Feature.
"I heard the track was really small and, not only was it small, it was a bullring," Kathryne said. "There were
really short straightaways and really wide turns. I had never sen a track like that before.
“In hot laps, I tried to figure out which lines to run. When I came back in, I talked to Sean (McClelland, the
team’s crew chief) about how to run the track. Right before the heat race, he told me to try to run the bottom. I
tried that and it didn’t work very well. Then I tried some other things that have worked for me in the past. That
helped, but there were only about three laps to go at that point. That’s how it went in the ‘B,’ too, so it wasn’t
a very good night.
“I learned a lot about running bullrings and how to stay on the cushion though, so there were some
positives. It was just a total learning experience.”
Minter, who leads the ASCS Gulf South Rookie of the Year race, had nothing but good things to say about the
Goodyear tires she has been testing.
“The Goodyear tires were incredible again,” Kathryne said. “We had absolutely no problems with them. They
always stick really well.”
Minter plans to race at her home track – Cowtown Speedway in Kennedale, TX – Saturday.
“We’re going to head home and run Cowtown – weather permitting,” Kathryne said. “I hear it’s still raining a
lot there. We hope the weather cooperates so we can race.”

Minter Almost Qualifies for Show-Me Showdown Opener
SEDALIA, MO (July 3) – Kathryne Minter came ever so close to qualifying for Tuesday’s American Sprint Car
Series Show-Me Showdown opener at Missouri State Fair Speedway.
Minter, racing in her first ASCS on Tour event in almost two months, drove her #13m Concrete Crushing
Company J&J into fourth place in the Fifth Heat Race and sixth in the First “B” Feature in her first visit to
Missouri State Fair Speedway.
“When I got there, I was a little intimidated because it’s a really big half-mile track,” Kathryne said. “At that
point, I knew it would be a learning experience. My car was really fast in hot laps. When I went out for the heat
race, I started next to (eventual feature winner) Gary Wright, so I knew I wasn’t going to win. I just thought I
would follow him to the best of my ability. I ran third most of the race but, on the last lap, someone (Mike
Trent) passed me and I finished fourth. That was sad because I would have qualified for the ‘A’ Main if I had
finished third.
“The track had completely changed for the ‘B.’ I started outside the second row. I was running up high in the
heat race and I figured I would run there again because you could still see the groove and it wasn’t slicked
off. The place to run was down low but, by the time I caught on to it, I couldn’t catch up. After a few laps, it
doesn’t matter if you’re in the groove or not because the cars are so spread out on a big track like that. I
really wanted to make the ‘A.’”
The Show-Me Showdown opener was also the first event Minter worked with her new crew chief, 2005 ASCS
Sooner Region champion Sean McClelland.
“Sean and I are working really well together,” Kathryne said. “Even though it was our first night racing
together, we were on the same page. He’s really encouraging and a good teacher. He set up the car perfectly;
it was like it guided itself and I just drove it.
“Sean and I agreed that, overall, the night was pretty good. It was exciting to run fourth in the heat race. I saw
the white flag and I thought, ‘Holy cow, this is really happening.’”
Minter, who leads the ASCS Gulf South Rookie of the Year race, raved about how well the Goodyear tires she
has been testing made her car handle.
“The Goodyear tires were amazing,” Kathryne said. “We had absolutely no problems with them. We were really
fast and they stuck really well.”
Minter will be back in action on Independence Day in the ASCS Show-Me Showdown finale – the Inaugural
Daniel McMillin Memorial – at Double X Speedway in California, MO.
“I heard that Double X Speedway is smaller than Cowtown (her home track, a ¼-mile oval in Kennedale, TX), so
it must be really small,” Kathryne said. “So, we’re going from a half-mile to a track that’s the smallest I’ve ever
run. I was talking to some of the guys and they said, ‘Don’t get used to racing on this big, wide-open track.
You can’t do that tomorrow night.’ I’m looking forward to it though; it should be fun.”

Kathryne Minter Gets Ready for Busy Week
by Richard Day
BEDFORD, TX (July 1) – The torrential rain that has kept Kathryne Minter from racing every weekend certainly
hasn’t dampened her spirit.
She and new crew member, Sean McClelland, have used their time wisely, working in the team’s shop getting
ready for this week’s American Sprint Car Series on Tour races at Missouri State Fair Speedway (Tuesday) and
Double X Speedway (Wednesday).
“I’m really excited about this week’s races in Missouri,” Kathryne said Sunday. “I’ve only raced in Missouri
once (two weeks ago in a Winged Outlaw Warriors event at Springfield Raceway). We were running pretty well
in the feature at Springfield, but the rocks in the track cut a hole in my right rear tire. These will be ASCS on
Tour races, so the competition will be tougher. That’s OK though; the more experienced drivers I race against
the better I’ll get.”
Minter is also planning to race in Saturday’s ASCS Sooner Region at Cowtown Speedway.
“I’m looking forward to coming back to Cowtown, too,” Kathryne said. “It’s my home track, but I haven’t exactly
been spectacular there. I’m hoping I can put what I’ve learned to good use.
“I worked on the car with Sean quite a bit last week. We got things really organized and he taught me a lot
about compression, shocks and different driving styles. He taught me some handy things I can do to the car,
too. We had a bonding day Friday. His brother, Brian McClelland, who also races, was going to run the ASCS
Sooner race at Cowtown with us, but it was rained out so we all went to Six Flags Over Texas.”

Minter Leads ASCS Gulf South Rookie Race
By Richard Day
BAYTOWN, TX (June 23) – Kathryne Minter’s 14th-place finish in Friday’s American Sprint Car Series Coastal
Region Versus Gulf South “A” Feature at Motorama Speedway pushed her into first place in the ASCS Gulf
South Rookie of the Year point standings.
“It’s great to be leading the rookie points,” said Kathryne, who also ranks 13th in the ASCS Gulf South point
standings. “Earning that award is one of my goals this year.”
Minter is also pleased to have 2005 ASCS Sooner Region champion Sean McClelland join Kathryne Minter
Racing.
“It’s great having Sean join our team,” Kathryne said. “He’s going to take some time off from racing so he can
work on racecars. ‘Slim Jim’ (Osborn, Minter’s crew chief) worked on Sean’s car when he won the ASCS
Sooner Region championship two years ago. Sean has learned a lot from Jim, so working with him should be a
smooth transition because Jim and I work so well together. Sean is going to fly down Wednesday and get the
car ready and we’re going to test it that night at Cowtown Speedway.”
McClelland also finished second in the 2004 ASCS Sooner Region point standings with Osborn as his crew
chief. Osborn worked with NASCAR Nextel Cup star Dave Blaney when he raced with the World of Outlaws in
the 1990s.
“We’re excited about adding Sean to our team,” Kathryne’s father and team owner, Mike Minter, said. “Sean is
really excited about the change from successful driver to future championship crew chief. We’re hoping that
Sean and Kathryne work as well together as ‘Slim’ and she have.
“I’m really encouraged about her progress lately. I know the finish doesn’t look like it, but she had a top-five
car in Friday’s heat race and looked even better in the ‘B.’ The fans in the stands were on their feet cheering
for her; I could hear them from the pits.”
Kathryne is looking forward to racing in Saturday’s ASCS Sooner Region race at Cowtown Speedway.
“Cowtown is my home track,” Kathryne said. “I hope to run well there Saturday. People came up to me after
the race at Motorama and told me I was racing like a totally different driver. They said I had a completely
different driving style and had better control of the car … and it’s all because of what Jim taught me recently.
I would not have known how to race like that if he hadn’t explained it to me like he did.”

Kathryne Minter Spins Out of Motorama Race
BEAUMONT, TX (June 22) by Richard Day – Kathryne Minter drove her #13m Concrete Crushing Company J&J
past more cars than anybody in Friday’s 25-lap American Sprint Car Series Coastal Region Versus Gulf South
“A” Feature at Motorama Speedway, but two spins put her in the pits.
“I raced up to ninth position in the feature, but there was a slick spot in turn two,” said Minter, who was
credited with 14th place. “I hit it and I spun out. They sent me to the back and I said to myself, ‘Hey Kathryne,
don’t hit the slick spot again.’ I was passing two cars on the outside going into turn one a few laps later, and
because I passed them on the outside, I hit the slick spot in turn two again. After I passed them, I couldn’t get
my car straight and down low quick enough. As soon as I figured out where I was, I knew what was going to
happen. I spun out again, so I was done with seven laps left in the race. It was really depressing because I
was running really well. My car was really fast and the Goodyear tires were really hooking up … but I hit that
slick spot. The track was so slick, there were cars spinning out left and right.”
Minter raced past four cars in the “B” Feature to qualify for the main event.
“I was passing cars pretty quickly in the ‘B,’ but we got together with somebody,” Kathryne said. “It didn’t hurt
us though, so we finished second.”
Kathryne learns something new every time she goes to the racetrack.
“’Slim Jim’ Osborn was out with us and he was teaching me a new driving style,” Minter said. “He told me to
hit the brakes before the car ever gets to the corner and yank the steering wheel, so you can manhandle the
car. I got the concept of what he was saying and it worked, so I’m going to keep doing that.”
Minter is rapidly becoming a radio personality as well, appearing on Houston-area shows twice with a 24-hour
period. In the last six weeks, she has appeared as a guest on Dirt Nation™ LIVE, “The Sammy and Bob Show”
on ESPN Radio twice, on K-MAC Sports’ “Dirt Track Insider Show” and KKNG Radio in Oklahoma City.
“A guy from Big Dog 106 Radio (KIOC-106.1 FM) interviewed me at Motorama,” Kathryne said, “and I was on
the ‘Sammy and Bob Show’ again Saturday morning. They’re going to come out and watch me race at Houston
Raceway Park, too.”
Minter will be back in action Saturday in an ASCS Gulf South race at Houston Raceway Park.
“I really want to run well at Houston,” Kathryne said. “The first time we went there this year, it was rained out.
Then we had a fast car the next time (May 19th), but our U-joint and driveshaft broke. Hopefully, we’ll have
better luck this time.”

HRP to host ASCS sprint car shootout
By Michael Pineda
Baytown Sun
Published June 23, 2007
Bedford, Texas native Kathryne Minter may be new to the American Sprint Car Series Gulf South racing
circuit, but she is wasting no time in making a name for herself.
Ranked No. 30 in the ASCS national standings, Minter will look to move up tonight in the third annual Texas
Outlaw Fireworks ASCS Spring Car Shootout at Houston Raceway Park tonight. Hot laps are scheduled to start
at 6:30 p.m. with racing scheduled for 7 p.m. A fireworks show will be presented at intermission.
Minter broke into the ASCS after spending three years on the IMCA circuit. In her three years, the 2006
graduate of the Lyn St. James Driver Development Program won over 50 feature races. Two years ago she
claimed the series championship.
“I’m racing against some pretty experienced drivers,” Minter said. “I have learned that patience is the key to
racing. My schedule is has also gotten a lot busier. I have gone from 30 races to 60 and we keep adding
dates.”
Friday night, Minter raced in Beaumont at the Coastal vs. South Round One race. Tonight will be the second
time that she has raced in Baytown. On June 19, Minter finished seventh in the B feature.
“We got rained out once and then we came back in May,” Minter said. “My U-joint and steering column broke
and I missed the cut and had to take a provisional at the back of the pack.”
Minter admits that when she got into racing three years ago she had not idea there was racing beyond
NASCAR. Since then she has climbed the ladder. She started with mini stocks and converted to limited
modified and 360 sprint. Once she went to sprint there was no turning back. Last year on her home track in
Fort Worth she finished seventh in the points standings.
The Gulf South rookie balances racing with a busy school schedule. Minter attends Temple Christian High
School in Fort Worth where she will be a junior next year. In addition to racing, she plays volleyball, soccer
and runs track. She is also active in Youth and Government.
“They work really well with me,” Minter said. “For the most part I maintain straight A’s. I hope to attend college
where I will study engineering and learn about aerodynamics.”
This year Minter is aiming for the rookie of the year award on the Gulf South circuit and when her first sprint
car race. Judging by the success she has had in three years it is only a matter of time.
Minter Runs Goodyear Tires in WOW Debut
SPRINGFIELD, MO (June 16) by Richard Day– Although Mother Nature forced Kathryne Minter to change her
schedule for the second straight weekend, it gave her the opportunity to race with the O’Reilly Winged
Outlaw Warriors for the first time at Springfield Raceway.
Minter planned to test Goodyear tires in American Sprint Car Series races at State Fair Speedway in Oklahoma
City Friday and Fast Trax Speedway in Chatham, LA, Saturday. She made her WOW debut instead, with
Goodyear tires on every corner of her #13m Concrete Crushing Company J&J except the right rear to
conform to WOW rules.
Kathryne ran sixth in the First Heat Race and raced into 14th place from outside the eighth row only to have a
flat right rear tire and collision slow her progress. She eventually finished 19th in the 20-lap feature.
“The track was taking rubber, so it was really tough out there,” Kathryne said. “I was controlling the throttle
control and the wing – pushing it back to make the car tighter and pushing it forward to make the car looser –
but I wasn’t doing it at the right time.
“We were running pretty well in the feature, but the rocks in the track cut a hole in my right rear tire. The tire
was going down, but we didn’t know it. The car was running rough, but I thought it was because the track was
changing. On the last lap, I got taken out by a guy who ran over my right front. We didn’t know the tire was
going down until we came off the track. It was going down slowly, but it was making the car really tight.”
Minter couldn’t have been happier with the way the Goodyear tires performed on the ¼-mile oval.
“It was our first time on Goodyear tires,” Kathryne said. “They were great; they have a lot of grip. We’re going
to run Goodyears in ASCS races, too. Their rules say you have to run a Hoosier on the right rear, but we’ll
have Goodyears everywhere else on the car.”
The personable Minter was definitely an attraction off the track at Springfield Raceway. As fans clamored
around her, she signed approximately 200 autographs sold more T-shirts than any other driver at the
racetrack.
Kathryne was in the pit area at 81 Speedway for Sunday’s O'Reilly NCRA Sprint Car Series race presented by
ICM/Ethanol to benefit the Steve King Foundation when it was postponed due to inclement weather. The race
has rescheduled for July 3rd.

Minter to Race on Goodyear Eagle Tires, by Richard Day
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (June 14) – Kathryne Minter will be racing on Goodyear Eagle Tires when she competes
in American Sprint Car Series events this weekend.
“We can’t thank David Gracy of Carter-Maxwell enough for giving us the opportunity to test Goodyear tires
this weekend,” the driver of the #13m Concrete Crushing Company J&J said Thursday. “We’re really excited
to be racing on ‘The Wings of Eagles,’ and hope to make this a fulltime deal.”
Minter, a 16-year-old racer from Bedford, TX, is the hottest young driver in auto racing. The 2006 graduate of
the Lyn St. James Driver Development Program will race in Friday’s ASCS Sooner Region event at State Fair
Speedway in Oklahoma City and in Saturday’s ASCS Gulf South event at Fast Trax Speedway in Chatham, LA.
Minter, who finished 14th in the April 14th ASCS Sooner Region race at Cowtown Speedway, ranks 17th in the

Minter Records Career-Best Run at Cowtown
KENNEDALE, TX (June 9) – Kathryne Minter wasn’t about to let a change in her racing schedule affect her
Saturday.
Although threatening weather deterred her from racing at “The Home of the Nationals” – Knoxville Raceway –
she put together a career-best performance at Cowtown Speedway. Minter drove her family’s #13m Concrete
Crushing Company J&J into eighth place at the high-banked, ¼-mile oval.
“I really wanted to go to Knoxville because I wanted to experience it sooner than later, but we were afraid the
race would be rained out,” Kathryne said. “So we raced at Cowtown. The track was really dry – it was dry even
before we went out for hot laps – so that was a challenge.”
Minter finished fifth in the First Heat Race to qualify for the fifth row inside starting position in the “A”
Feature.
“We started on the pole in our heat race, but we missed the setup a little bit,” Kathryne said. “We had some
new crew guys with us last night – Roger (Leescamp) and Sheldon (Leescamp) – and we spent the night
getting on the same page. We were a little bit too loose in the heat race, but we definitely got it right for the
feature. I avoided plenty of wrecks; people were spinning out left and right. I just stayed out of trouble and
got my best finish ever at Cowtown.”
“We’re pleased to add Roger and Sheldon to our team,” Car Owner Mike Minter said. “We believe they will
bring plenty of valuable experience and help in some areas where they have special talents. Sheldon should
be able to communicate well with Kathryne since they’re close to the same age.”
Minter plans to race in Friday’s American Sprint Car Series Sooner Division event at State Fair Speedway in
Oklahoma City. She finished 14th in an ASCS Sooner race at Cowtown Speedway on April 14th. She plans to
run an ASCS Gulf South race at Fast Trax Speedway in Chatham, LA, Saturday. Kathryne ranks 17th in the ASCS
Gulf South point standings.

Minter to Race at ‘Home of the Nationals’
KNOXVILLE, IA (June 6) – Kathryne Minter has raced at “The Birthplace of the World of Outlaws” – Devil’s
Bowl Speedway – several times and has adopted it as her favorite racetrack. Now it’s time for the hottest
young driver in auto racing to drive the #13m Concrete Crushing Company J&J sprint car at Knoxville
Raceway – “The Home of the Nationals.”
“I’m really excited about racing at Knoxville,” Kathryne said Tuesday. “I’ve just heard so much about it, I can’t
wait to go and see what it’s really like. I hope I get a chance to go to the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame &
Museum, too.
“I’ve been talking to my friends about it: ‘Guess where I’m going?’ When I tell them, they say, ‘what’s that?’ I
say, ‘I don’t know; I’ll tell you when I get back.’”
Minter, who has been racing with the American Sprint Car Series this year, plans to compete in the 17th
Annual 360 Nationals at the hallowed half-mile oval August 2-4. In fact, she has competed against a pair of
former 360 Nationals champions: Gary Wright (1998) and Wayne Johnson (2000).
“We want to go and try it out a few times this year before the Nationals so I can get a feel for the track,”
Kathryne said. “I want to get a hold of it and figure out how to drive on it so I’m prepared when we go to the
Nationals. All I’ve heard is you go about 140 (MPH) all the way around the track and you don’t let off. I want to
try it before I go and do it with a whole lot of other people there. I hope it’s like the Devil’s Bowl; I love that
track. We’re going to race in Knoxville’s weekly 360 program. They have about 60 cars, and I have to start at
the back because they line up by points.”
Kathryne is the eternal optimist no matter what situation arises. When asked how she feels about tackling
“The Home of the Nationals” after rain has kept her from racing the last three weekends, she said, “I think it
will help us some ways. As much as I’ve wanted to race, sometimes it’s for the better if you have some time
off. Everything should be together and ready. We have the big motor out and we would have been racing my
backup car. It gives us plenty of time to get everything taken care of, especially the motor. I even mopped the
trailer. We’ve been staying busy.”
Kathryne was a guest on K-MAC Sports’ “Dirt Track Insider” Radio show last Saturday.
“The show was good,” Kathryne said. “They asked me some good questions. I wasn’t nervous any voice didn’
t get shaky. I improve every time I’m a guest on radio shows.”

Minter Almost Qualifies for Laney Memorial
BAYTOWN, TX (May 19) – Kathryne Minter almost qualified for Saturday’s Sixth Annual Ronald Laney
Memorial “A” Feature at Houston Raceway Park, finishing one position short in the “B” Feature.
Laney, who lived in Humble, TX, lost his life in a sprint car crash while leading the “B” Feature on opening
night of the Fourth Annual King of the 360s event at East Bay Raceway in Tampa, FL, on January 30, 2002.
“We missed qualifying for the feature by one spot,” Minter said. “We didn’t get to run the heat race because
our U-joint and driveshaft broke in hot laps. We spent the whole heat race getting the car ready for the ‘B’
main to try to qualify for the feature.
“We started at the very back of the ‘B.’ I passed four cars on the start, but they called it back because the guy
on the outside pole didn’t start. On the restart, I passed four cars again, but one (Kent Lewis Sr.) passed me
back. I finished seventh, so I missed it by one spot.”
Minter, who finished 14th in Friday’s American Sprint Car Series Gulf South main event at Motorama
Speedway in Beaumont, appeared to be one of the drivers to beat in the hot-lap session.
“The car was really fast, especially in hot laps,” the 16-year-old driver of the #13m Concrete Crushing
Company J&J said. “We were going really fast and, all of a sudden, it just broke. The drive shaft and all the
parts flying up hit my foot. It hurt my foot a little bit, but it’s not that bad. Somebody told me about a part that
protects you from the driveshaft; I think I’m going to get one of those.”
Minter will return to ASCS Gulf South competition Memorial Day weekend, racing at the Gator Motorplex in
Willis Saturday and South Texas Motor Speedway in Corpus Christi Sunday.
“I’ve raced at Gator before, but not at the track in Corpus Christi,” Kathryne said. “My fuel pump broke when
I raced at Gator the last time, and that was really bad. It’s a fast track. I also raced my mini-stock there.
Hopefully, it will be better for us this time.”

Minter Learns Valuable Lesson at Devil’s Bowl
MESQUITE, TX (May 12) – Sprint car 101 was in session for Kathryne Minter Saturday in the O'Reilly American
Sprint Cars on Tour’s “Red River Shootout” at Devil’s Bowl Speedway. She learned that sometimes things
happen that are beyond her control.
Minter, hoping to qualify for the “A” Feature for the first time at her favorite track, failed to achieve her goal
due to a mechanical malfunction and a collision with a fellow driver. The 16-year-old racer from Bedford, TX,
took it in stride like a veteran.
“I wish I could have made the ‘A,’ but these things happen,” Minter said. “The 31 (Matt Cleavenger) got into
me on the front straightaway (in the “B” Feature). That gave us a flat tire and messed up the front end – it
locking up. The car wouldn’t turn at all after that. Hopefully, we’ll make it next time. We’ll just try to do better
next week.”
Kathryne started the evening in the star-studded First Brodix Heat Race trying to drive the Minter family’s
#13m Concrete Crushing Company J&J past the likes of three-time defending ASCS National Tour champion
Gary Wright, 1997 ASCS National Tour Rookie of the Year Danny Jennings, last year’s National 360 Driver of
the Year Jason Johnson and 2004 Devil’s Bowl Speedway track champion Johnny Miller. A fitting on the #13m’
s top wing broke caused it to move all the way back, making the car too tight to handle. The result was a ninth-
place finish in the 10-lap race.
A collision with Cleavenger early in the “B” Feature flattened Minter’s left front tire, which kept her from
qualifying for the 25-lap main event.
Lesson learned, Minter will be much the wiser when she runs ASCS Gulf South events at Motorama
Speedway in Beaumont, TX, Friday and Houston Raceway Park in Baytown, TX, Saturday.
